Fundamentals of Nichiren Shu
A Single Evening Lecture
This class builds on the three part series "The Essentials of Buddhism". While it isn't required to take that three part series it is advised if you are new to Buddhism. This class will focus strictly on Nichiren specific doctrines of Ichinen Sanzen, Three Truths, Three Great Secret Dharmas, and the history of Nichiren and Nichiren Shu.
There is no charge for this class and it is open to anyone without registration.

Introduction to Buddhist Art
A Three-Part Series of Evening Lectures
This series of lectures is designed to introduce you to Buddhist Art beginning with the first Buddhist images and the influences of other cultures on those images. We will also explore some of the artistic styles adopted as Buddhism spread to different countries. Some of the things we will explore and learn as we follow Buddhist art is the different deities that are often depicted and some of the icons and mudras used to identify these images. Some of the many common mudras will be explained as well as traditional ritual instruments.
There will be one class conducted by a guest lecturer, Rev. Ryuoh Faulconer from Boston's Myogyo-ji. Rev. Faulconer will lecture on Buddhist Iconography for which he has received special instructions. It is sure to be an informative session. He will present on October 19.
Cost: $30 for the three sessions

Diversity and Equality in Buddhism
A Two-Part Series of Evening Lectures
This lecture series will be co-presented by Rev. Myokei Caine-Barrett from Houston's Myoken-ji and Rev. Ryusho Jeffus. Rev. Myokei has presented lectures nation wide on diversity and women's issues in Buddhism. This lecture series will explore various subjects and how they are considered in light of the teachings in the Lotus Sutra. Also will be presented is a brief outline of significant women in Buddhist history.
Cost: $30 for the two sessions

Introduction & Overview of the Lotus Sutra
A Single Evening Lecture
This single lecture provides an overview of some of the main teachings presented in the Lotus Sutra. We will touch on the ways to divide up and break down the Lotus Sutra into parts and the importance of each part and its relationship to the whole. We will also cover briefly the 7 major parables to be found in the Lotus Sutra. This lecture will focus on a Nichiren specific interpretation as based in T'ien T'ai doctrine by Master Chi-i.

Monthly Lotus Sutra Lecture
A Single Evening Lecture Each Month
This is a series of classes that are on-going and do repeat approximately every 1.5 years. During this series we take a closer in-depth look at the Lotus Sutra chapter by chapter (though sometimes several chapters are grouped together because the content is similar). The lectures are structured in such a way that it is possible for someone to join in on this series at any point. It is recommended though that if possible you please consider taking the single evening class on the Introduction to the Lotus Sutra.
